Why Stainless Steel?
Our love for stainless steel is eternal, and it’s easy to see why! Not only is it hypoallergenic, it’s also super durable and requires zero maintenance, making it ideal for everyday wear.
The technical bit: Stainless steel contains an invisible layer of chromium that prevents oxidisation, which means it won’t rust, tarnish, or lose its shine over time. ✨
For our gold pieces, we use a stainless steel base with a PVD coating. PVD (physical vapour deposition) is a modern plating technique that bonds the colour to the metal. It gives that high gloss gold vibe that is loved by so many, with the durability to back it up.
It’s also water-resistant and designed to keep up with you, always! Sweat-proof, shower-proof, gym-proof – no need to take it off.
And if that isn’t enough, stainless steel is 100% recyclable, so it also ticks the box for a more sustainable lifestyle. 🌍
From closing jump rings and matching pearls to attaching chains and securing pendants, every piece is made by us from start to finish. And that attention to detail really matters.
Stainless Steel FAQs
Is stainless steel fashion jewellery?
It can sit under fashion jewellery, yes! But it’s not your typical costume jewellery.
Traditional costume jewellery is often made from base metals like brass or copper with a thin plated coating that can wear off over time, leading to discolouration and leaving your skin all shades of green! 🤢
Stainless steel is different. It’s a high quality, skin-friendly material that won’t rust or tarnish, and it’s much more hard-wearing for everyday wear.
What are the benefits of stainless steel jewellery?
A few of the reasons we love it:
- Hypoallergenic and kind to sensitive skin
- Won’t rust or tarnish
- Super durable and hard-wearing
- Water-resistant 💦
- Low maintenance
- Affordable
- 100% recyclable ♻️
Why do you use stainless steel over sterling silver?
Working with stainless steel is a more affordable option compared to precious metals like sterling silver, which means we can create jewellery of the highest quality while still keeping pieces accessible and design-led.
Sterling silver is a precious metal (92.5% silver mixed with other metals for strength). It’s beautiful, but it’s also softer, so it can scratch and tarnish over time and often needs polishing to keep its shine.
We’ve found a lot of people love sterling silver, but it often gets put aside for “best” without meaning to! Stainless steel is much more durable in comparison and doesn’t come with that same worry, so it naturally becomes something you can wear all the time rather than something you keep for special occasions.
Stainless steel isn’t a precious metal, so it doesn’t have the same resale value as sterling silver or gold. That said, it’s still high-quality jewellery, chosen for its strength, durability, and ability to be worn every day without compromise.
Can I wear stainless steel jewellery every day?
Yes – that’s exactly what it’s made for. It’s designed to be worn daily without needing to be taken off for showers, swimming, or general everyday life. It holds up really well over time without losing its finish.
Is stainless steel waterproof?
Yes. It’s water-resistant, so it can be worn in the shower, at the beach, or during everyday activities without needing to be removed. It’s designed for real life wear!
Will stainless steel jewellery tarnish?
No – stainless steel resists tarnishing and rusting. It contains an invisible layer of chromium that protects the surface from oxidisation, so it keeps its finish with very little upkeep.
Will stainless steel jewellery turn my skin green or cause discolouration?
No. Stainless steel is not prone to causing green skin or discolouration and is commonly worn as a low-reactivity alternative to other base metals used in fashion jewellery.
Is stainless steel good for sensitive skin?
Yes. Stainless steel is generally considered hypoallergenic and suitable for sensitive skin.
How should I care for stainless steel jewellery?
Stainless steel is made for everyday wear, so it doesn’t need polishing or a lot of special upkeep. A quick wipe with a soft cloth or a rinse in warm water is usually enough. Dry it off and you’re good to go!
